Joe Adamich | Artist

Joe Adamich is a Colorado native and a graduate of the University of Southern Colorado and Colorado College. He is a Signature member of the Southern Colorado Watercolor Society. His work is in many permanent collections and displays a wide range of style that is distinctly his own. His collection of watercolors and pastels show a broad spectrum, from city scenes to southwest imagery, still life from his travels, to his whimsical portrayals of dogs.

Happy Holidays

I would like to wish all of my friends a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Upcoming Events

After a long, cold winter what I call the Art Season is about to open with numerous competitive exhibits, juried shows and sales. The first of these shows in which I will have my art is the Espiritu show on April 24. The show is put on by Catholic Charities of Pueblo. As more events begin to shape up I will post them here on this blog.

I have added some new paintings to my site, two winter scenes of New York city and more dogs, two realistic representations, "Maggie" and "Jackson." I have also added a mixed media piece called "Alice in snow."

A quote I like from Denver artist, Bill Amundson,
"People have told me that I am too straight looking for my work. I'm too normal. If I'd come out and look insane or wear crazy Rastafarian hair extenders, they'd be happy-I'd look like a crazy artist. There's nothing that makes people more nervous than when the artist looks like an insurance man."

Holiday Art Shows

As always, the holidays mean a busy time for Art. I will be involved in a number of shows which run through the holiday season. I currently have new work at the annual Own Your Own show at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center which runs through January 9. In addition to this work at the Art Center I also have a piece in the Southern Colorado Water Color Society Signature Member Show in the Boardroom. This show runs through January 30.

My art can also be viewed at the Pueblo Bank and Trust Christmas Show which runs through December 11. A percentage of the proceeds of this show will go to funding Art scholarships at CSU-Pueblo. Another show will be held at the Pueblo Athletic Club starting December 13 and running through December 20, 25% of the proceeds of this show will go to the Deb and Eric Beaudry Scholarship Fund.

Coming Up

I will have two entries in this year's Colorado State Fair which runs from August 28th through September 7th. They are "El Chapultepec" and "Days of Innocence gone by..." which can be found on my website.

The weekend of September 25th through the 27th is Pueblo's annual Chili and Frijoles Festival which will be held in the Union Historic District. My art will be on display and for sale at Exquisite Taste, 327 S. Union, both inside and outside the store.

Artist's Update

For me, Summer is a time to draw and paint to get ready for the fall and winter shows such as the Own Your Own at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center and other shows during the Christmas season. There are a variety of upcoming shows to enter like the Colorado State Fair and Colorado Watercolor Society. It is also a time to catch up on some of those long term projects that I have been working on for awhile. For instance, I have three small pieces of furniture that I want to paint in different styles, folk, whimsical and Asian.

In mid July I attended a collage workshop given by Santa Fe artist Brigitte Bruggemann (brigittebruggemann.com) in Santa Fe. It was held during the annual Folk Art Festival which was great because I am always inspired by other artists. For me, most importantly, workshops are always a source of new ideas and renewal.

In closing, a great quote for any artist’s blog, “Painting is its own language and when you try to talk about it, it’s like an inferior translation.” - Francis Bacon
